Jul 27, 2023Ingham County Health Department Installs Naloxone & First Aid Vending Machine > Health Department
LANSING, Mich. – The Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) today announced the installation of a Naloxone & First Aid vending machine at the Ingham County Human Services Building. The machine is on the first floor of 5303 S. Cedar Street in Lansing, inside Door #3.
The vending machine is free and available to all members of the community. It dispenses Naloxone kits, also commonly known as Narcan, an emergency rescue medication that can be easily given to reverse an opioid overdose. The machine also has other harm reduction products such as fentanyl test strips, first aid kits, CPR mouth shields, and more. A resource rack can be found near the machine with information about harm reduction, substance use prevention, and treatment.
“The opioid epidemic is a serious public health crisis, and we are committed to doing everything we can to prevent overdose fatalities,” said Dr. Nike Shoyinka, Medical Health Officer. “The installation of this Naloxone & First Aid vending machine is one way we are making it easier for people to access the life-saving tools they need.”
ICHD encourages community members to visit and use the vending machine to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Making harm reduction supplies available to the community can help to reduce the spread of disease, prevent overdoses, and save lives.
The installation of the Naloxone & First Aid vending machine is part of ICHD’s ongoing efforts to prevent overdose deaths and make harm reduction supplies more accessible. In addition to the Naloxone vending machine, ICHD also offers free Naloxone training. Funding for the Naloxone & First Aid vending machine is provided by Mid-State Health Network. For more information about training or to get Naloxone, please visit the ICHD website at HD.Ingham.org.
